Zero Point Five Pinot Noir

  • Red

In southern Germany, along the border with France, the Baden region has been growing pinot noir for over 1000 years. Within Baden, on the terraced vineyards of the extinct volcano called the Kaiserstühl, Leitz sources 100% of the Zero pinot noir. The de-alcoholizing process for red wines is even more difficult. Not only is more alcohol typically being removed, the phenolic and aromatic components differ from white. The source wine is critically important, and this region provides amongst the best in Europe. Extensive work has gone into preserving the varietal character and smooth tactility of pinot noir. The first patent for alcohol removal under vacuum pressure was given in Germany in 1907 to a small property in Johannes Leitz’s hometown of Rüdesheim, in the Rheingau. This area remained an epicenter for distillation for generations, sending de-alcoholized wine to the US during Prohibition! More recent advances in technology have allowed for lower temperatures of distillation and the retention of even more of the distinct varietal and regional character of the wine. With Johannes Leitz growing and sourcing high-quality fruit and wine, the very best non-alcoholic wines are still produced here after over 100 years.
